A horror movie trailer for Flat Stanley (the children’s book about a boy who was flat) composed from several short visual scenes.
1. Bedroom scene.
[In a moonlit room, a boy sits in bed, staring at the door. He has a music box in his hands. We see his mother closing the door as she leaves.]
Boy – Mummy! Please don’t go!
Mother – Don’t worry. I’m just downstairs.
[She closes the door and he is illuminated only by moonlight. He starts to wind the music box and it starts to play creepy tinkly music. As we zoom slowly, the VO speaks.]
VO – They say careless talk costs lives.
[We hear a creaking noise begin. The boy notices and looks up. He plays the music box very fast, as if it could protect him somehow.]
VO – Careless woodwork could cost you your soul…
[We hear the creak again. The boy looks up, and his poster board comes crashing down on top of him.]
2. Museum scene.
[Pan across a dimly lit art museum. SFX: The echoey sound of footsteps.
Stanley's mother and father are walking along a gallery of paintings.]
Mother – Stanley, are you here? Stanley?
Father – Stanley, we know you’re here. This is your favourite gallery Stanley.
Mother – Come home Stanley. We’re so sorry – for whatever it was. Please.
[They walk past a painting and once they are past it, one of the faces (Stanley's) silently curls out of the picture and turns to follow them with glaring bloodshot eyes.]
[They walk further along the gallery. A statue comes crashing down around them.]
3. Running scene.
SFX: Running music.
[The mother and father are in a mad dash across a cavernous museum gallery. The mother screams as Stanley flips and slides and wriggles across the ceiling, hurling statuette ornaments at them and screaming himself in excitement.]
[They reach the other side of the gallery and lock themselves in an office.]
4. Gallery office scene.
[The lights flicker, and then go out. The room is moonlit.]
Stanley (OOV) – I’m coming in now. You can’t stop me.
Mother – Stanley, no!
[She brandishes a pair of scissors against the door. Stanley's hand starts to slip through the door.]
Father – Cut him! You’ve got to cut him!
Mother – I can’t! Please, no. Stanley no!
[Stanley's full arm is through the door. His head follows.]
5. Shooting scene.
[Police are in the cavernous gallery, guns trained at the (now open) office door. Stanley is menacing his mother and father in the office.]
[He turns, sees the police and faces them. They start to fire. Film slows to bullet-time and watch the bullets fly in. Stanley turns sideways to them and is invisibly flat. They continue shooting while the VO speaks.]
[VO - This Summer lock all the doors, turn out the lights, and practise origami. Nothing else is going to save you.]
6. Final scene.
[Blackness.]
SFX: Creepy strings.
Little girl’s voice – It’s cold in here.
Father – Draught excluders! Draught excluders!
[The two words FLAT STANLEY superimpose, each accompanied by the crash we heard when his poster-board fell down.]
VO – Flat Stanley. Rated 18.
SFX: heart beats
